Generations of Hope Foundation is dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases in Northern Maine. Our mission is to provide resources, guidance, and support while building a compassionate community, so no one has to navigate this journey alone.

This foundation was inspired by our family’s journey, and the impact ALS has had on our lives. Through this work, we hope to bring comfort, support, and hope to others facing similar challenges.

Founded by family members who understand this journey firsthand.

Our Story

Generations of Hope Foundation was inspired by our journey alongside my mom and the profound impact ALS had on our lives.

In 2023, my mom began experiencing symptoms that would later be recognized as ALS. After months of navigating appointments, testing, and uncertainty, she was officially diagnosed in November 2024. Throughout this time, our family worked tirelessly to coordinate her care, traveled long distances to specialists, and ensure she received the best possible support.

Living in Northern Maine presented additional challenges, including limited access to specialized care and resources. Many appointments required hours of travel or flights to Boston, which took a significant toll. Despite these challenges, we were fortunate to receive guidance from organizations and programs that helped improve her quality of life—support that I will always be grateful for.

As the disease progressed, we witnessed firsthand the emotional, physical, and logistical challenges that ALS brings—not only for the individual, but for their entire family. One of the most difficult parts was watching my mom struggle to communicate and express her needs, while feeling helpless in easing her frustration and pain.

Through this experience, our family became a strong advocate for her care—managing medical coordination, securing financial assistance, arranging caregivers, and ensuring her comfort and wishes were honored through the end of her journey.

Alongside my aunt, we saw a clear gap: families in our region often lack access to immediate support, guidance, and resources during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

Together, we co-founded Generations of Hope Foundation to help fill that gap. Our goal is to provide support, connection, and hope to individuals and families navigating ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases—so that no one has to go through it alone.
